Greek letter-numerals inherited wholesale, titlo and all, and one of the clearest pieces of evidence for the descent argued in the Reading Room: Cyrillic kept the Greek alphabetic order because the order was load-bearing arithmetic. Retired from ordinary use by Peter I's reforms; still read in Church Slavonic books and on icons.
